Bookmark CE Mobile App User Handbook

Everything you need to save, organize, explore, and chat with your knowledge on iOS and Android.

Start with the quick guide
On this page

1. About Bookmark CE

Bookmark CE helps you save useful web pages and supported documents, organize them into a personal library, and ask questions about the information you have collected. You can browse and save pages inside the app, import files from Google Drive or another app, apply custom tags, and use Smart Chat to work with your entire library or selected sources.

The app supports Google and Apple sign-in, light and dark appearance, voice input, spoken answers, subscription and credit management, and local browser controls. Available sign-in, billing, and document-viewing options may differ between iOS and Android.

This handbook describes the customer features available in the current mobile app.

2. Quick Start

  1. Open Bookmark CE and sign in with Google or Apple.
  2. Open Browser to find and save web pages, or connect Google Drive to import supported files.
  3. Use Library to browse saved items, folders, and tags.
  4. Open Smart Chat to ask about your full library, or attach selected bookmarks before sending your first message.
  5. Use History to return to earlier conversations.
  6. Open your Profile to change appearance and voice preferences, review billing, log out, or delete your account.

Tap the menu icon on a main screen to open the navigation drawer. The drawer provides access to:

  • Smart Chat — ask questions about saved knowledge.
  • History — reopen or delete previous chats.
  • Tags — create and manage custom tags.
  • Library — browse bookmarks and folders.
  • Browser — search, browse, and save web content.
  • Drive — upload and use supported Google Drive files.
  • Integrations — connect Google Drive and view other available services.
  • Profile — manage your identity, preferences, billing, and account.

Tap outside the drawer, press the device Back button, or swipe it left to close it. Selecting a main destination closes the drawer and opens that section. Your profile is always available at the bottom of the drawer.

4. Screen and Feature Guide

4.1 App Start and Sign-In Check

When Bookmark CE starts, a branded splash screen remains visible while the app prepares your preferences and checks whether you are signed in. You do not need to take any action. If a saved session is available, the app opens Smart Chat; otherwise, it opens Login. If startup cannot restore your session, you are safely returned to Login instead of remaining on a blank screen.

4.2 Login

Use Login to enter Bookmark CE or create an account through a supported provider.

  • Tap Continue with Google to choose a Google account and approve sign-in.
  • Tap Continue with Apple where Apple sign-in is available. On Android, this may open a secure browser window before returning to the app.
  • While sign-in is running, both provider buttons are temporarily unavailable and the selected button shows progress.
  • Cancelling the provider window leaves you on Login. A sign-in problem appears as a message so you can try again.
  • Tap Terms or Privacy to read the corresponding Bookmark CE page in your browser.

After successful sign-in, the app opens Smart Chat. The app may also request relevant privacy or notification permissions. Bookmark CE does not offer email/password or phone-number login in the current version.

4.3 Apple Sign-In Return

During Apple sign-in on Android, you may briefly see an empty themed screen while the browser hands control back to Bookmark CE. This is an automatic transition, not an interactive page. Wait for sign-in to finish; Smart Chat opens after success, while a failed or cancelled attempt returns you to Login.

4.4 Smart Chat Home

Smart Chat is the main screen for asking questions about your saved knowledge.

  • The home area shows up to three recent conversations. Tap one to continue it.
  • If there are no recent chats, the screen explains how knowledge-based chat works.
  • Use the shortcuts to open Library, Browser, or Drive.
  • Type a question in the message box and tap Send. The box expands for longer text.
  • Tap the microphone to dictate a question instead of typing.
  • Before sending the first message, tap the add-bookmark button to choose specific sources. Selected bookmarks appear above the message box and can be removed.
  • If you attach nothing, Smart Chat uses your full knowledge base.

Some plans or credit conditions may prevent new messages. Existing conversations remain readable, and the screen provides the appropriate option to review credits or upgrade.

4.5 Smart Chat Conversation

The conversation view contains your questions and Bookmark CE's answers. You enter it after sending a new question or opening a saved conversation.

  • The heading uses the conversation title or first question. Tap Back to return to a fresh Smart Chat home.
  • Answers may first show progress messages and then appear gradually.
  • Continue the conversation by typing or dictating another question.
  • Tap Copy on a completed answer to place it on your clipboard.
  • Tap Play to hear an answer aloud. The current word is highlighted while it is spoken; use Stop to end playback.
  • A question sent by voice can be read aloud automatically. When reading finishes, listening can reopen for a hands-free follow-up.
  • If an answer fails or is interrupted, use the displayed retry option. Returning to an unfinished chat may automatically recover the result.
  • When sources are available, open the citations area below the answer.

The bookmarks selected when a conversation starts remain its fixed source scope. Start a new chat to use different bookmarks. If the conversation reaches its question limit, the message box is replaced with New Chat. Credit or subscription restrictions also disable new questions while keeping earlier messages visible.

4.6 Bookmark Picker

The Bookmark Picker lets you choose which saved pages a new Smart Chat conversation should use.

  • Open it with the add-bookmark button beside the Smart Chat message box.
  • Search by bookmark title, address, summary, or tag.
  • Tap any row to select or deselect it. The heading shows the number selected.
  • Tap Add to apply the selection. Adding with nothing selected returns the chat to full-library scope.
  • Tap Cancel, tap outside the sheet, or press Back to keep the previous selection unchanged.
  • If bookmarks are still loading, wait for the spinner. Use Retry after a loading error.

An empty message explains whether your library has no bookmarks or whether the current search has no matches. The picker is available only before the first message fixes the conversation scope.

4.7 Listening Overlay

The Listening screen appears over Smart Chat while voice recognition is active. Animated rings and a microphone show that the app is listening.

  • Speak after the overlay appears; your final recognized words are submitted as the question.
  • Tap anywhere to stop listening and cancel the current voice action.
  • If no speech is detected shortly after listening begins, the overlay closes without sending a message.
  • Permission, microphone, connection, or device-recognition problems appear back on Smart Chat.

Listening may begin when you tap the microphone or automatically after a spoken answer during hands-free use.

4.8 Chat Citations

Sources appear only when an answer refers to bookmarks that are still available in your library.

  • Tap View citation or View citations below an answer to expand the source list.
  • Swipe horizontally when several source chips are shown.
  • Tap a source to open its web address using your device.
  • Tap the back/collapse control to hide the source list and continue chatting.

Unavailable or deleted bookmarks are left out. If no sources can be shown, the citations section does not appear.

4.9 Chat History

History lists your previous Smart Chat conversations, with the most recently active chats first.

  • Tap a conversation card to reopen it.
  • Tap the plus button to start a new chat.
  • Long-press a card or tap its three-dot button to open chat actions.
  • Pull down to refresh the list. More conversations load as you approach the end.
  • A loading indicator appears while conversations are retrieved, and an error message appears if the list cannot be refreshed.
  • If History is empty, tap Start a chat to open Smart Chat.

Browser visits are not shown here; they have their own history inside Browser.

4.10 Chat History Actions

The Chat History action sheet identifies the selected conversation and offers Delete chat.

  • Tap Delete chat to remove that conversation immediately.
  • Tap outside the sheet or press Back to cancel.

There is no second confirmation after choosing Delete, so check the displayed conversation title first. If deletion cannot be completed, History refreshes and the conversation may reappear.

4.11 Library and Folder Browser

Library contains all saved bookmarks, arranged in folders when folder information is available.

  • Tap a folder to enter it. Folder cards show the total number of items inside, including nested folders.
  • Use the breadcrumbs at the top to jump to a parent folder or the Library root.
  • Press Back inside a folder to move up one level. At the Library root, Back returns to Smart Chat.
  • Tap a bookmark to open it in Bookmark CE's Browser.
  • Long-press a bookmark to open its action sheet.
  • Search by title or web address. Search covers bookmarks across folders, not only the folder currently visible.
  • Tap the filter button to restrict results by custom tag or by automatically/manually applied tags.
  • Pull down to refresh your library.

Library shows separate messages for an entirely empty library, an empty folder, and a search or filter with no matches. If a deleted bookmark was the only item in a folder, the empty folder may disappear and Library moves to the nearest remaining location.

4.12 Library Bookmark Actions

Long-press a bookmark in Library to choose an action:

  • Chat with bookmark — opens Smart Chat with that bookmark attached. You can still change the selection before sending the first message.
  • Open with Bookmark CE — opens the page in the in-app Browser.
  • Open in External Browser — opens the address using your device's browser.
  • Delete — asks for confirmation before permanently removing the bookmark.

Tap outside the sheet or press Back to leave without taking action. This menu does not provide title editing, folder moving, sharing, or tag editing.

4.13 Library Tag Filter

Use the filter beside Library search to narrow bookmarks by custom tags.

  • Select one or more tag chips. A bookmark matches when it has at least one selected tag.
  • Select Auto-applied to require an automatically assigned tag, or Manual to require a manually assigned tag.
  • When both type options are selected—or neither is selected—there is no tag-type restriction.
  • Text search and tag filters work together, so a bookmark must satisfy both.
  • Tap Apply to show filtered results.
  • Tap Clear to remove all tag restrictions.
  • Close the sheet without applying to discard temporary changes.
  • If no tags exist, use Manage tags to open the Tags screen.

An indicator on the filter button shows when a restriction is active.

4.14 Tags

Tags lets you create and manage labels used in Library filtering and Browser bookmark classification.

  • Tap Add to create a tag.
  • Tap a tag's edit icon to change its name or color.
  • Edit the description to explain what the tag represents. The app saves and checks the description after you stop typing for a few seconds.
  • Turn on Auto-apply after the description has been accepted. This allows Bookmark CE to apply the tag to suitable content automatically.
  • Turn Auto-apply off at any time, or revise the description and wait for it to be checked again.
  • Tap the trash icon to delete a tag after confirmation.
  • Pull down to refresh the list.

Each tag card shows its description status and whether Auto-apply is enabled. If a change cannot be saved, the screen keeps the existing information where possible and displays an error.

4.15 Create or Edit Tag

The tag editor is used for both new and existing tags.

  • Enter a tag name. Spaces are converted to underscores as you type.
  • Choose one of the displayed pastel colors.
  • Tap Shuffle to generate a different color selection; an existing selected color remains available.
  • Tap Save when a name and color are selected.
  • Tap Cancel or press Back to close without saving.

While Save is in progress, the button shows activity and cannot be pressed again.

4.16 Delete Tag Confirmation

The delete dialog names the selected tag and warns that deletion cannot be undone. Tap Delete to remove it or Cancel to keep it. After successful deletion, the tag disappears while you remain on the Tags screen. If deletion fails, the tag remains and an error is shown.

4.17 In-App Browser

Browser lets you visit web pages and save supported content without leaving Bookmark CE. It normally opens on Google, but links from Library and Drive may open directly.

  • Enter a web address or search phrase in the address bar and submit it.
  • Use Back, Forward, Reload, and Stop to control the current page.
  • Tap Save Page to add supported page content to your Bookmark CE library.
  • The save button shows when a page is saving, already saved, saved without a complete transcript, or could not be saved.
  • YouTube pages may be saved with available transcript content. If no transcript can be obtained, the page may still be saved with limited content.
  • Supported PDF links can be viewed and saved. Android uses a dedicated PDF viewer; iOS may display the PDF directly.
  • Visits made in Browser appear in local Browser History.
  • Links that Browser cannot display are passed to another suitable app on your device.

Press Back to move through page history. If there is no earlier page, Back returns to Smart Chat. Saving may be unavailable when your plan or credits do not permit it; follow the displayed billing option to continue.

4.18 Android PDF Viewer

On Android, supported PDF links open in a dedicated viewer inside Browser.

  • Wait for the document to download and render; a spinner is shown during preparation.
  • Read the PDF and use Browser's Save Page action if you want it in your library.
  • Press Back or close the viewer to return to the previous page.
  • If the PDF is too large, password-protected, damaged, or cannot be displayed, choose Open externally or Close.

This separate viewer is not used on iOS.

4.19 Browser Menu

Tap the three-dot button beside Browser's address bar to open these options:

  • History — view pages visited inside Bookmark CE.
  • Copy current link — copy the current address to your clipboard.
  • Open externally — open the page in another browser or suitable app.
  • Edit tags — change manual tags for the current page. This is available only after the page has been saved.
  • Clear browser data — choose which local browsing information to remove.

Tap outside the menu or press Back to close it. If a saved page can no longer be matched to a bookmark, tag editing displays an unavailable message.

4.20 Browser History

Browser History is stored on this device and is separate from Chat History.

  • Open Browser Menu > History to see recent visits.
  • Each row shows the page or search title, website, and approximate visit time.
  • Tap a row to close the menu and revisit that address in Browser.
  • Tap the Back chevron to return to the main Browser Menu.
  • If there are no entries, the screen explains that visited Browser pages will appear here.

Use Clear browser data to erase this list. Clearing it does not delete saved bookmarks or chats.

4.21 Browser Tag Editor

Use this sheet to assign existing custom tags to the currently saved page.

  • Open Browser Menu > Edit tags after saving the page.
  • Tap available tags to add or remove them manually.
  • You can assign up to 10 manual tags. Once the limit is reached, other unselected tags are disabled until you remove one.
  • Automatically applied tags are shown as selected and locked; they cannot be removed here.
  • Tap Save to replace the page's current manual-tag selection with the new selection.
  • Close the sheet to discard unsaved changes.
  • If no custom tags exist, tap Manage tags to open the Tags screen.

Loading and save problems appear inside the sheet so you can retry or close it.

4.22 Clear Browser Data

Choose Clear browser data from Browser Menu, then select:

  • Clear all — removes local Browser history, cookies, sessions, and Browser cache.
  • Clear cookies & sessions — signs websites out and clears local browsing sessions without erasing the visit list.
  • Clear history — erases the list of visited pages without deleting cookies.
  • Cancel — makes no changes.

These choices affect only Browser information stored on your device. They do not delete bookmarks, tags, chats, Google Drive files, subscription information, or your Bookmark CE account. You remain in Browser after the action.

4.23 Google Drive

Drive lets you connect a Google Drive account and turn supported files into saved Bookmark CE items.

  • If Drive is disconnected, follow the Connect option to open Integrations.
  • When connected, the screen shows the Google account, saved item count, Disconnect, Choose file, current uploads, and recent Drive bookmarks.
  • Choose file accepts multiple PDF, TXT, MD, HTML, DOCX, and RTF files. Each file must be no larger than 25 MB.
  • Valid files move through uploading and processing states before becoming saved items.
  • Files shared to Bookmark CE from another app may appear as ready items; tap Upload to send them.
  • Dismiss completed error or ready entries when you no longer need them.
  • Tap a recent Drive item to open its action sheet.
  • Pull down to refresh connection details and recent files.

Unsupported or oversized files are rejected with an explanation. Successfully saved uploads leave the queue and appear among recent Drive bookmarks.

4.24 Drive File Actions

Tap a recent Drive item to choose:

  • Chat with file — opens Smart Chat with that file attached.
  • Open with Bookmark CE — opens the file in the in-app Browser or viewer.
  • Open in Drive — opens its address through Google Drive or another suitable app.

Tap outside the sheet or press Back to close it. This menu does not delete the file.

4.25 Disconnect Google Drive

Tap Disconnect on the Drive screen to see the confirmation dialog. Disconnecting removes Drive-derived bookmarks from Bookmark CE and moves the Bookmark CE folder in Google Drive to Trash, where Google Drive may retain it for 30 days.

  • Tap Cancel or press Back to keep the connection.
  • Tap Disconnect to continue. Buttons are locked while the request runs.
  • On success, the app clears Drive items and returns to Integrations.
  • On failure, the connection remains and an error message appears.

Bookmark CE does not provide an in-app restore action after disconnection.

4.26 Integrations

Integrations lists external services known to the mobile app.

  • Google Drive is the currently supported integration.
  • A disconnected Google Drive card offers Connect. Complete the Google account permission flow to link it.
  • A connected card shows account or connection information and opens Drive when tapped.
  • Cancelling connection returns without changing anything; success or failure is confirmed with a message.
  • Other listed providers may show Coming soon to mobile and cannot yet be connected.

If no providers are ready to display, a loading indicator appears. Press Back to return to Smart Chat.

4.27 Profile

Open Profile from the bottom of the navigation drawer.

  • The top section shows your photo or initials, name, email, membership date, and plan indicator.
  • Review your current plan and relevant end date.
  • Open Billing & Credits to see subscription and credit information. Some Android trial accounts show their credit count directly instead.
  • Toggle Dark mode to change the app's appearance immediately.
  • Open Voice to choose how Smart Chat reads answers aloud.
  • Open Delete Account to begin permanent account removal.
  • Tap Log Out to sign out and return to Login.

Logging out removes the local session and local Browser information from the device. If logout cannot finish, the app displays an error and keeps you signed in.

4.28 Voice Picker

Voice Picker controls the voice and speed used when Smart Chat reads answers.

  • Move the speed slider to make speech slower or faster.
  • Search installed voices by name or language.
  • Tap System default to let the device choose the voice, or tap an installed voice to select it.
  • Tapping a voice plays a short preview at the current speed.
  • Premium or Enhanced labels identify higher-quality voices when the device provides them.
  • Tap Save to keep the selected voice. Tap Cancel, outside the sheet, or Back to leave without changing the voice selection.

Speed changes are retained as you adjust them. If the selected voice later becomes unavailable, Smart Chat uses a suitable device default. If no voices are installed, Android users may need to add one through device settings.

4.29 Billing & Credits

Billing shows your subscription status and current credit balance.

  • The subscription area displays your plan, status, applicable end date, and the action currently available to you.
  • Choose Subscribe to open Go Pro when you do not have an active plan.
  • Choose Manage or Update payment to open the appropriate store or web management page.
  • The credits card shows total remaining credits, usage progress, renewal date, bonus credits, and whether credits are exhausted.
  • Eligible active subscribers with zero credits may buy a 50-credit top-up. On Android, this may continue through a web checkout.
  • Pull down to refresh billing and credit information.

Purchase confirmation may take a moment before the updated balance appears. If a product or top-up is temporarily unavailable, the app displays a message. Some Android trial accounts are returned to Profile instead of viewing this screen.

4.30 Go Pro and Subscription

Go Pro explains the paid plan and provides subscription actions.

  • If you are not subscribed, review the listed benefits, monthly price, and renewal information, then tap Subscribe.
  • Subscription may use your device's app store or a secure web checkout, depending on platform and availability.
  • Tap Restore Purchases to reconnect a previously purchased subscription. The result states whether a purchase was restored, none was found, or the store could not be reached.
  • If you already have Pro, the screen confirms your status and shows Manage when that subscription can be managed from the current device.
  • Use Retry if plan information or pricing cannot be loaded.
  • Tap Terms or Privacy to read the legal pages externally.

Buttons remain unavailable while a purchase, restore, or retry is running. After a successful new subscription, the app verifies it and returns to the previous screen. Some Android trial accounts are directed back to Profile.

4.31 Delete Account

Delete Account permanently removes your Bookmark CE account and associated information, including your profile, bookmarks, summaries, tags, folders, chat history, integrations, and subscription-related account data.

  1. Read the consequences shown on the screen.
  2. Type delete in the confirmation field. Capitalization and surrounding spaces do not matter.
  3. Tap the enabled Delete Account button.
  4. Confirm once more in the final warning dialog.

Tap Cancel or Back to return to Profile before deletion begins. While deletion is running, the form is locked. Success clears the local session and returns to Login. If deletion fails, your account remains available and the screen shows an error so you can try again.

4.32 Share Files into Bookmark CE

You can share supported documents to Bookmark CE from another app.

  • Select one or more files in the other app and choose Bookmark CE from the Share menu.
  • Supported files are checked for format and the 25 MB per-file limit.
  • If you are signed out, complete sign-in before the shared files are handled.
  • If Google Drive is disconnected, Bookmark CE asks you to connect it in Integrations.
  • If Drive is connected, Bookmark CE opens Drive and asks whether to save the valid files to its Bookmark CE folder.
  • The confirmation states how many files are ready and how many unsupported files were skipped.
  • Tap Save to add all ready files to the upload queue, or Cancel to discard them.

Accepted files then move through the normal Drive uploading, processing, and saved stages. If no shared file is valid, an unsupported-file message appears.

4.33 Alerts and Credit Messages

Bookmark CE uses alert dialogs for confirmations, errors, purchase results, file-sharing choices, and other important decisions. Tap the appropriate action, Cancel, or the device Back button when allowed. Destructive actions are shown in red, and some alerts cannot be closed by tapping outside them.

When credits are exhausted:

  • Active subscribers are directed to Billing to review or top up credits.
  • Users without an active plan are directed to Go Pro.
  • Some Android trial accounts receive an informational message without a purchase link.

Only the newest global alert is shown if several events occur at once.

4.34 Error Recovery

If an unexpected problem prevents the app from displaying a screen, Bookmark CE shows Something went wrong and reassures you that saved content is safe. Tap Try again to rebuild the app view without deleting your account, bookmarks, chats, or preferences. If the same problem immediately returns, close and reopen the app and try again later.

Tapping a supported Bookmark CE notification can open Smart Chat, Library, History, Browser, Drive, Integrations, or Tags. If the notification destination is unavailable or unrecognized, the app opens Library. Notification actions received while signed out wait until authentication is complete.

Web links, source citations, Google Drive links, legal pages, and unsupported Browser links may open another browser or app on your device.

  • Logging out clears the local session and local Browser information. It does not delete the account.
  • Deleting the account is permanent and removes the account and associated product data.
  • Disconnecting Google Drive removes Drive-derived bookmarks from Bookmark CE and moves the Bookmark CE Drive folder to Google Drive Trash.
  • Smart Chat can keep existing conversations readable even when credits or subscription conditions prevent new messages.
